Trust me, I get you. I have terrible insomnia and have for almost 3 years. Have you ever tried a benzodiazapine at night? I take Klonopin to keep my nightmares away (I have the same one over and over) for when I actually do sleep.
Most of my issue is not being able to turn my brain off...altho the Klonopin doesn't make me sleepy, benzos do for most people though. You might be able to find one not as strong and long lasting as Klonopin that knocks you out, but you feel fine when you wake up in the am. Ativan is one that knocked out my anxiety for me until it no longer worked, which can be the bad thing with benzos, you either need a higher dose or a stronger one over time. Xanax and Valium are other examples of benzos that are shorter lasting like Ativan...my Klonopin is allegedly pretty heavy hitting and stays in my system awhile.
And I refuse to take any of those drugs for sleep when you might drive or eat and not remember it, no thank you!
Some people also go the more natural route and try things like melatonin...I haven't because I think my insomnia is way past that point.
