Melatonin doesn't knock you out, its not a "sleep aid" in the traditional sense. All it can and should do is open the sleep window for you. If it failed to do so, or you didn't recognize the window and waited for it to actually put you to sleep, then that must suck and feel like a collossal waste of time, but honestly everyone complains because they expect to be knocked the fk out, and thats not its function, not in the least...

Melatonin is our body's sleepytime hormone that gets released when we're tired. When we have insomnia, there's no sleepytime message being receved from our brains. So all this supplement "can" ever do, is send a sleeptyime message. Meaning? Well if you yawn or feel even a bit relaxed after taking it, jump in bed and switch off the light.

Its sole function is to send that sleepytime message, what we do with the message is up to us.
