I don't think that 'Why bother?' is the right attitude to have, either.
I just think that so many times there is so much importance and affirmation placed on what we do, who we are and what we can achieve. Which I suppose there's nothing wrong with that sometimes, except that for the most part we've forgotten that we are part of the animal kingdom as well, and we act in a way that puts us in a god-like position. We harness and eradicate all of the Earth's natural 'resources'; then we try to 'fix' it. We find ways to put people in space, which is sweet, for sure; but you just know there's people doing it to find other planets that sustain life so we have somewhere to go after we've finished ruining this one.
For me it's more about perspective. I don't see us as any more or less important as any other species. But I think it has gone overlooked for too long that we are not the most important, nor the most intelligent, and that we need every other species on this planet in order to survive.
Just my two cents.
