So, I grab something I am supposed to read or something I want to read to help me with the task, etc. I get "started" in some way that I enjoy and, once I'm caught up in the task, I usually work on it awhile/until I finish it.
Another tactic is to list it all and plan it all, just get it all out on paper, a plan, and that gets it out of your head where the "so much" is not swirling around in there where you're unable to swat at it and keep it still

I'll probably end up working late and doing everything (meaning the stuff I absolutely, positively must do) in the last couple hours of work. Then I'll be more overwhelmed tomorrow. Argh
