I've been taking Lamictal for 3 years or so. I take 300 mg. Once when I was feeling rather depressed, my pdoc bumped it up to 400mg and my depression worsened. I couldn't take how I felt, so I went back down to 300. As soon as I went back to the 300, I was fine. I thought that was strange.
