Sometimes a person is deep in thought, about their book or what kind of book they might like to look for that day, and so they are preoccupied.

Other people not smiling doesn't keep me from smiling, but sometimes I will add a silent thought like "Sorry that you apparently had lemons for lunch".... entertaining myself
