I know what you mean. I have noticed when I've done that too.. entirely unintentionally.
I think they have no desire to look hostile, they just are so absorbed in what they are doing.
Have you ever noticed yourself with a less than friendly expression on your face because you were so deeply involved in something that you barely pull yourself away from it when you have to acknowledge someone in some way?
