The most impressive thing I've seen is when my girlfriend decided she was ready to get married and joined a square dance group (not our thing at all!) and met her future husband there. I was asking her about it because she had really changed over the previous 4-5 months in subtle ways so it was hard to tell exactly what was different and she said she just "decided" and worked on being more outgoing and meeting people. I've always believed there is something to that "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear" thing; I've had that happen and I know what I went through when meeting my husband, how that was a real learning experience for me.
