I certainly would not rely on anyone's recommendations regarding bipolar diagnosis and treatment whose only knowledge of the disorder is through TV. This doesn't mean he can't help you, just that I wouldn't put much weight on his opinions on the matter, or any more than anyone else without expertise or experience on the matter.
I saw only a couple of episodes of that show and had no idea where the bipolar was coming from, but as I say I haven't seen it much, she didn't seem to be in an episode during the episodes I watched.
