Saturday June 22nd at 3AM my deputy fire chief laid down his life helping a single mother in a one car crash, it was not in our area, but 20 mins away, he was also a cop, he was off duty and happened apon the crash and stepped out of the car and stepped on a live power line he did not see. he died at the age of 55. he was a well known man, we are all taking it really hard. he has touched so many lives in his 30+ years of service
and that saturday we had fundraiser planed and we sold tickets and cooked pigs all night so we couldnt cancel. but we said a few words for him and i know i wasnt the only firefighter we wanted to break down and cry, but we cant, we go by a rule "never let the public see you cry, we have to be strong when they are weak, i need support to be strong for his family and the public and its tough
R.I.P chief JJ. you will truly be missed
