Thankgiving was started by our Pilgram forbearers who, with the Native Americans celebrated their survival of the first year of their moving to the New World. Many had died that year, but some made it through.
The Native Americans brought food with them and the Pilgrims made food, too and they celebrated for three days, eating, visiting and giving thanks for their survival and blessings.
In these times, Thankgsiving is a time for family and friends to come together and take a day to be thankful for each other and their blessings. The day before Thanksgiving has the most travelers of any day in the year. Turkey is almost always served along with stuffing. Pumpkin pie is almost always served also.
We have a huge parade in New York called the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. It's always fun to watch on tv while we cook.
There are no exchanges of presents unless someone brings an extra dish or bottle of wine, etc., to share.
I hope this helps you understand Thanksgiving. If you have any more questions, please just ask.
