I have recently found a local depression/bi-polar support group. I myself suffer from depression. My daughter suffers from bi-polar disorder. For me, this group is amazing. It is not just for people suffering from these disorders, but for family and friends.

The group meets once a week and last about two hours. Initially, everyone meets in a large group where news and information is passed along. Once a month the group has a quest speaker. The speaker can be a medical professional (doctor, nurse, pharmacist) or a group member. Following large group, everyone breaks up into small groups. I find is very beneficial. It is the best therapy! I like that I am able to open up and share my current issues/struggles and receive the perspectives other members and family/friends contribute.

The group meets every week without fail, even if the meeting date falls on a major holiday. It also has a "library" of resources. Some of the senior members of the group make themselves available to others in need, much like an AA sponsor might.

I encourage you to attend at least once if for no other reason that it will get you out and around people. Some people do have friendships outside the group.

Best Luck to you.
Thanks for this!
