i lost my dog of 12 years about a year ago, i know how bad it can feel, but just rejoice that he/she had a good life with you, and a happy one.

and getting another dog immediatly after does help.
it helped all of us cope with the loss of our older dog, i know most people say it doesnt help, but it really does.

your dog is lucky to have someone there with him/her in his/her time of need.
