In my opinion, the fact that you addressed it with her in the same conversation is huge, as this is something I struggle with a lot.

I do understand, though, that you're dissatisfied with the process you went through and wished you were more direct and spontaneous with your reaction to her non-response. I hope you're able to see this as a learning experience - something you're now aware of and want to try to work on, so that you can get better at reacting in-the-moment.
