Vlad the impaler was the inspiration for bram stoker's 'dracula'. Vlad didn't do any vampire type things He did however torture his enemies in very cruel ways. But considering the time period (middle ages) and the historical background (wallachia was constantly at war with its two powerful neighbors, Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) it was natural that he had to find a way to stand up to his enemies. This was just a very very brief historical background
