Trigger warning for discussion of domestic and child abuse.



Having trouble buckling down and working. In addition to the court decision I mentioned before, over the weekend a 14 year old boy shot and killed his father (fairly locally). The dad had been abusing the mother, and the mother finally divorced the dad, but the dad continued abusing the mom. The mom got a restraining order finally, but refused to call the cops on the dad when the abuse continued. The dad supposedly never abused the kids, so he had visitation. The boy shot and killed the dad during a visit with him and said it was to stop the dad from abusing his mom ever again. Then it came out that the dad was forcing the 14 year old boy to sleep in the same bed with him and the dad's new girlfriend. Girlfriend insists nothing happened; there was just no other bed for the kid to sleep in and they didn't want to make him sleep on the floor.

I should not be so reactive, but I get jittery and it's hard for me to concentrate when these kinds of cases come up.
