I think God gave me a tendency to get depressed because it helps me to empathize with other people's struggles. Also, my pastor has been on an anti-depressant for two years. I was surprised when I heard this in response to my struggle with trying an anti-depressant for the first time in my life. I think that her being on an anti-depressant helped me to see that having a problem like depression doesn't make me nuts or crazy.
As for a miraculous recovery from depression, it is possible. However, I think God prefers to help us through it. This makes us learn to lean on him more.
In one of his letters, Paul mentions a thorn in his side that he had asked God to remove more than once. God's response was my grace is sufficient. So, I feel that God wants to walk with us rather than remove us from our troubles.
I wish I could say that this will make you feel better. But, if your like me, it won't. When I cry, I can't always be cheered up. My poor T has got stuck with that problem.
