Seriously, I'm beginning to think that bipolar disorder has to be the most misunderstood mental illness there is. The misinformation -and stereotypes- are rampant. Don't tell me, this person was 'nuts' all the time?
It seems to me that the whole episodic nature of the condition seems to be the most lost on people. Sometimes I feel like shouting from the rooftops "with 'normal' periods in between!" Not this constant rollercoaster that seems to be a consensus amongst many out there.
I think people need to refer more to the DSM, but more importantly, I wish that the DSM would tighten up the criteria and make it more descriptive and specific, so it doesn't leave so many holes/gaps open to all kinds of interpretations. My rant. I find it all so annoying. And one of the main reasons why I do *not* tell people I have this.
