Thanks all for your comments and words of support.
I've always been considered odd for my sense of fashion. As a teen and then as a young adult it did get to me a bit. While other females where busy primping and preening and concerning themselves with the latest fashion, I was having a hard time to put together one outfit that didn't make me look like a dork. As a got older I basically came to the conclusion that I would never be one of those people who seem to have excellent fashion sense and so I just decided to wear what I like even if it wasn't fashionable at the time.
My question came about because it seems as though I've had the bad fortune (as of late) of meeting up with individuals who, upon seeing my manner of dress automatically assume that I'm trying to recapture my youth. It seems to me that women face this more than men do. Don't know why but as a woman ages she is expected to gravitate toward more mature and matronly forms of dress.
Lizardlady---Totally the same. I've never been a fru fru sort of girl and as a teen and young adult I took some teasing for it. Still do sometimes. That combined with a short pixie haircut and minimal use of makeup, well, you can guess some of the comments I've endured.
I've always been a bit 'off' in many ways and most days I can endure the odd looks or wayward comments but lately it seems as though there has been a slew of them and I resent it.
