I guess I don't have anything to "add", just encouragement to tell her your concerns and to tell her how her statement(s) made you feel. Using the word "true" in that would bother most people when used to define a personal experience that you also have knowledge of---it sounds as if she is "correcting" you, or invalidating your experience even if it was not meant that way at all.
