Exactly, they are obviously doing it out of pity or as a back up friend in case the other friends leave early. I hate it and yeah I no longer accept invitations unless I'm sure I won't be treated that way, but usually I am so if I do accept an invitation, I only do it in places where I can just easily walk away, like the school cafeteria rather than somewhere off campus.
