Basketball has been my favorite sport since I was a small child. I grew up watching it with my dad and over time it grew to a love of basically all sports. The only sport I am remotely decent at playing is basketball since I've been playing for most of my life. I'm still not the best however, I never even tried out for a team in school (despite people telling me too, I was too anxious about sucking in front of everyone). But I really like playing. I find it to be a way to escape from the nasty things in life, even if just for a little while. When I was younger I would go outside nearly everyday if I could and play in the backyard all alone. I would imagine two made up pro teams playing (yes I had my own made up pro league with my own made up players) and I would play as both teams and be the person shoutcasting on tv as well. Those were the days. These days I stay inside most of my time but I still go out to the park to play with a friend, or play in the backyard with my nieces and nephew.
I like that you have a desire to play though you aren't very good. It takes a lot of practice. I'm not nearly the best player by any means, but I try and have fun doing it (win or lose). It also helps to have a friend with the same attitude. My friend may not be very good either, but we play against and with one another and we suck doing it but it's fun and also pretty good therapy.
