Are we talking about boiling corn on the cob? Stick it in the microwave with its husk/silk still on and nuke it for a minute and a half per ear. Works best if you have asbestos hands though, to then shuck it. Even though all the silk comes off easily the hot thing needs work. Lynn's right, George, sugar, not salt.

I hate overheated food. It makes me so angry to order something in a restaurant because I'm hungry and then have it burn me when I try to eat or manipulate it. We still talk about the pizza cheese that flipped up above my eyebrow because the pizza wasn't cut well/properly and the 2nd degree burn that stuck around for a week. Don't get me started on the roof of my mouth burns.
