Yes, I believe there is a basis for disability. I got mine because of depression and anxiety along with some physical problems.
Like I always advise people who have or are thinking of applying for SSI, switch your thinking from minimizing your illnesses to brining them to the fore. See your doctor for anything concerning these illnesses, have your T or medical doctor write a report as to why you can't be on anti-depressants, write down in a journal everything that has happened, DETAILS, because of your mental illness. Finally, get a copy of your medical and pshychological files and keep adding to them. The thicker the better. It proves that your life is impacted quite a bit by your illnesses.
File right away! When your claim is granted, it will be retroactive. It took me three years and I got quite a sizable amount.

It took three years, however, because I hired a lawyer. I'm positive that he didn't know crap from applebutter, but he could have messed up the case to make my retro bigger, therefore his cut was bigger. I FIRED HIM two weeks before I went to my hearing. The judge had already approved me before I went before him.
If you apply for Welfare/Medical and food stamps, there are SSI advocates that work IN the Welfare office and help you present your case in the proper manner.
Best of luck to you!
