Hello I hope things get better for you soon. There may be help for you to get your house in order for the winter. I live in Ohio and there is help or lower income people to help get their homes inorder for the winter. I do not know what state you are in but you may want to call someone in your county to see if help is available for winter weatherization or help for people with moderate incomes.
