I'm sorry! I never did find an easy way of telling my kids that one of their pets had died. Depending on the kid was what I was in for as far as "drama." They seem to find a lot of comfort in the "burial and service" for some reason.
I never tried it, but if you go buy one now and replace the dead one, the excitement of the new one may make the rest go easier. I'd disinfect the cage and replace all the bedding, though, just in case. Don't know if you have enough time for that.
At any rate, the dead guinea pig deserves a decent burial.
