When I was my most depressed, I'd tell myself, "Just get through today." then I'd focus on what I had to do for the day. and do that. maybe it was just, feed & water the cats, then go back to bed. And I'd tell myself that was enough. Same thing, next day. Maybe I'd try a small task or two. But put no pressure on myself other than getting thru the day. Seemed to help. Try this and see if it helps the long-range anxiety of what do you do with all of your troubles. If there is a big task you need to do and you can't face it, take out a sheet of paper and break it into really small steps, like, one of my tasks is sending new baby clothes to my grand-nephew. Small tasks might be: 1. Find the clothes where I put them. 2. Call my mom for my niece's address. 3. Go to the store and buy paper to wrap them in and a card. 4. Wrap the presents. 5. Box the presents and address them. 6. Take them to the post office. So, doing one task per day, I'd finish in six days. Now, I actually did this. But when I got to step 1, I found it was so long since I'd bought them, I had to take them back to the store and exchange for a larger size. So it is taking me 7 steps, but I'm going to do 4 & 5 today. Having really small steps makes action more possible.
