The problem I'd run into with something like that is that they wouldn't let me have my phone at work. The spiral bound notebook wasn't a problem though.

If you've got a smartphone it probably is the best thing to put everything in, although if you have a tendency to misplace it I can see where that might be an issue. If you don't have a smartphone you could probably pick up an older one on Ebay for less than $100. It doesn't have to be up to date if you just want to use the calendar and alarms. When I write stuff down it's more for putting it into long term memory rather than having it to look at later. For some reason going through the effort of writing things out helps in that regard. If you misplace your notebook just write something important on any old piece of paper. Maybe it will help with your recollection later.
