Rebound pain can occur after taking a pain killer for short durations and when changes in the nervous system have occurred...and you have a heightened sense of pain FROM taking pain killers on and off OR for a prolonged period of time... you may stop taking the pain med, and the original pain is gone, but now you have pain FROM the heightened sensitivity... it's called rebound.

It occurs with headache pain and meds and more often with opiods.

If you continually start and stop pain meds, but find that your pain tends to occur a certain time (each) day... and you grab your pain meds... that might be a rebound pain. Either maintain regular usage of your pain meds, or when you do first get that pain, try to work through it another way and see if you can keep from needing the pain med.

But since you're going into the pain center, don't worry about all this, I'm sure they will educate you better than I'm doing
