I'm in Canada and use it a lot. I joined a book club through meetup.com it costs $2.00 / session, once a month and that's to cover the organizer's expenses. I've joined a women's yoga group (free), a music & spirituality group, and a couple of social groups, that do things like go out for cheap meals, cycling, walking etc. I've always had a good experience with all the groups I've joined and found people to be friendly. I live in a big city and it can be hard to meet people, especially when you're not working, or in school, so for me meetup is a lifesaver.
