Did your doctor explain the reasoning behind the medicine choice? It seems like it would have made more sense to give you an antidepressant. You shouldn't feel guilty about stopping the medication. It seems like it wasn't helping and was causing weight gain; plus, you have your doubts. Look for another psychiatrist and talk with them about getting on an antidepressant or maybe a benzo as needed.
You have a right to feel comfortable with the medication you are taking. Do not let anyone pressure you into taking a medication when you don't understand why you are taking it.
