Many factors can make people forget and have a foggy mind. Stress, lack of sleep, medications, ADHD/ADD, depression, being overwhelmed and more. Being anxious can also makes us forget things. What helps is being mindful and always having things in one spot - for example.... keys immediately go on the key hook and credit/debt cards instantly go back in the same spot in the wallet. For example sometimes I forget to lock the front door and turn off the porch light after taking my dog out at night. As I'm coming up the stairs I think in my head......"lock door and turn off light." That's a mindful thought.

Simple meditation also clears the mind. Take a look at your eating habits - eating healthy and moderate exercise increases concentration and focus. Hope it gets better soon.
