Yes, this is actually a good idea no matter where you live. It's good to be aware of what's around you.
Poverty sucks.

I've been in horrible poverty before. The key is to be smart with your money. Take assistance where you can get it, and just keep in your heart to pay it forward even if not monitarily in other ways. Food banks are good places to get things like noodles and canned food. Having help with your medical is a huge thing.
