Hi,

After scouring the internet and search engines for an answer to my questions concerning my son..i think I finally found the answer! I believe it's maladaptive daydreaming.

For the past 3-4 years my son, who is 6 years old, has been pacing in a circle and daydreaming. He does it for hours. Anywhere from a few minutes to an hour at a time. While he daydreams he skips around in a circle touching things along the way, almost in a type of pattern. He talks out loud and it is ALWAYS some type of battle scene with lots and lots of sound effects!
If someone looks at him he gets embarrassed, even though he does this in the living room! If we try to stop him from doing it he cries.

He doesn't do the pacing while outside the home, but the daydreaming is never ending. Even in stores you can hear him muttering under his breathe and doing movement/facial expressions. A few times he asked to go home so he could walk.

In the car he asks to listen to Skrillex "Bangarang" constantly on repeat. He plays scenes in his mind to this song (his words) and will just zone out.

He's always been a bit "different". As a toddler he would beg and beg to watch Garbage trucks on youtube and would only play garbage trucks/garbage man. He would have fake piles of garbage all over the house! Instead of playing with his books and toys as intended he used them as "garbage" and would collect things to use as garbage!

Even now, he hyper focuses on a subject and goes to town on it. He can tell you every species of shark and where they live! It's funny.

Anyways (i'm getting a bit off topic), i was worried about his pacing/talking and scheduled him a appt with a school psychologist (he is homeschooled). We will get another call from her in 2 weeks after she goes through her notes.

I don't know what to think. Do I just leave him be? Does this sound like maladaptive daydreaming? He tested as gifted on an assessment...so i wonder if he is just bored, causing the constant daydreaming?

I hope these 2 weeks go quickly so i can get some insight and i'll post the results here (if i remember).
Hugs from:
