In the winter I have horrible mania with huge aggression and psychosis. He wants me on another anti psychotic which I agree with, but I think I also need another mood stabilizer. Do patients take a mood stabilizer for a brief period of time and anti psychotics for a brief time of treatment? Would these be short term or prns?

I am currently taking 200mg of lamictal for bipolar and a small dose of risperdal since I have delusions and hallucinations year round. I still have them, but they aren't as crippling as they used to be. I don't want a higher dose of either since this balances me out for most of the year and I would hate to disrupt that homeostasis. Any thoughts/experiences would be great to hear
