What you all have said makes a lot of sense. After reading and reflecting on this, my position on this is:

I still am proud to be a veteran. Not all veterans are like the people that live at my hotel. Some of the veterans here are nice, most are not. Just staying away from the unsafe ones (if ever I can figure out who is who because sometimes you never know right away about someone).

The staff at the hotel is very nice to me...even goes out of their way to help me above and beyond what I observe when they deal with a problem veteran. I just hope the hotel staff doesn't judge me as being on of those "bad" seeds.
