Beth, I used to feel that way alot, too. Someone told me that we tend to see God with the same eyes we see our earthly fathers, or those in authority over us. It held true for me.

I used to think that Jesus was aloof when He was on earth and went around with His nose in the air, doing favors for people only when He wanted to.

When my ship hit the sand after my mom died, a friend dragged me out of the house to a Bible study group. They were studying the book of John. That's the best book to read in order to get to know Jesus, the person. It also depends on what Bible version you're reading.

When we read the passage where Mary, Jesus' mother, tells Him the wedding party is out of wine, He calls her "woman." To me that sounded so disrespectful!! But it was explained that in those days and by the Jews, that was a form of respect. Oy! It took it a while for it to sink in, but it did. Suddenly, Jesus didn't seem so aloof to me. He was more loving.

Getting to know Him better and seeing Him as a Brother, makes it even easier to know Him as a person. When Jesus got to Lazarus' house and found that he had already died, "Jesus wept." WOW! And He must have known that He was bringing him back to life!

Maybe you're afraid of God/Jesus because you don't know Him very well... you think?

See if there's any Women's Bible Fellowship Bible studies in your area. It's fantastic!
