Stigma is a powerful thing. Identity is also.
It's amazing how in our society, people stigmatize those with mental illness, but go running to help someone with cancer or diabetes. We dismiss people with mental illness so they hide it away, we blame the guns or the drugs, we do everything we can to avoid the real problem.

You have a good heart and you have to fight an enemy that's more devious than any virus or bacteria; your own brain. You are strong, grab your weapons and fight the good fight against that disease that wants to undermine you. We're all pulling for you.
