Lots of pdocs don't prescribe xanax because it is very addictive.
I have been taking it since 1999 though and back then I was taking 2 mg tablets several times a day. Now I seldom need it in daytime and just take 2-3 mg to help me sleep.
Some people get good effect from as little as 0.25-0.5 mg so you might ask if you can trial it low dose.
