If the SSRI is not working well for you, you can ask your doctor if you could try a different class of drugs, or something aimed more at anxiety than at depression. When I first started talking with my p-doc, I already knew that SSRI's and I didn't get along well, so I told my p-doc that right up front and so he started me on benzo's right off the bat. However, he didn't start me on Xanax...that was the 3rd drug I tried and the one that has worked best for me. I'm on a very low dose 3 times per day, every day, and it's working well with no side effects.
