Indiana got a D-. I volunteer for NAMI so I see & hear about the lack of care for the mentally ill. I'm one of the "lucky" (if anyone with a mental illness is lucky) ones who has private ins., but of course, they are trying to deny my meds, force me to change docs, etc. to save money. I've had to fight them & my doc has, too, to continue with her care (been with her 5 years now) & continue on the meds that have helped so much.

I also volunteer in the women's jail here locally. There are many women who have been diagnosed with a mental illness & are not receiving the proper medication. The psychiatrist comes in only once a month. There are some really caring therapists, but they can't prescibe meds. I don't know what would have become of me if I didn't have the doc & meds I have now--I could be there in jail, too.--Suzy
