You misunderstand.
Don't "try to focus", just let whatever this is, be.
Sometimes another voice breaking through the current in your head can help. Might I add the suggestion of guided meditation with headphones? I recently placed several links in the Buddhist section.

As I said in my other post, what can it hurt? PS - look up the song "Breathe In Breathe Out" by Matt Kearny. When I was going through something similar, it helped.
