I didn't reply before because I thought you just wanted to talk about haldol, which I've not tried. Sorry

I first went on risperidone, which completely zombie-fied me at 0.5mg. It really chilled me out at first, but then was too sedating so I stopped it. I wasn't on it long enough to stop the voices.

Then I tried aripiprazole/Abilify which helped with the voices. I got akathisia at lower doses, but at 10mg the voices mostly went and side effects were minimal. During periods of stress the voices come back.

I switched to quetiapine/Seroquel because it was both a mood stabiliser and an anti-psychotic, but it literally did nothing for my voices or delusions and I had a really bad time this spring on it, leading to my diagnosis changing to sza.

Switched back to aripiprazole/Abilify and the voices have eased off again on 10mg. Pdoc has given me an extra 5mg to take when I go back to Uni as the increased stress will cause the voices to get worse until I settle in again.

As to my opinions of antipsychotics, I wish that I wasn't on them, but I'm glad the aripiprazole/Abilify helps. I worry about the long term cognitive side effects of them and other medications. My plan is to learn some coping skills and taper off them properly as soon as I am able to.

All the best BurtonFan
