Sorry it took so long for me to reply to this lost...

The past is the past and recognizing our mistakes so that we can improve is the most important thing to our growth as people.

What you did may have been very troublesome but you didn't actually hurt anyone. Probably the most damage was to yourself, because that is a bad way to seek recognition, very unhealthy, but you have recognized that and stopped which is incredibly admirable. Because of that, you have some human knowledge about what drives people that many people just never think about. Don't worry about others who look at you with judgement... they have their minds set by the memories from back then. There are plenty of opportunities and people in the world and you have nothing to feel self-conscious about IMO.

What you describe in fact reminds me of the driving theme of the novel "The Celestine Prophesy"... that people need a sort of energy to survive, and that many get this energy by drawing it from other people: lying and manipulating even sometimes just very subtly and unknowingly. But there is a huge storehouse of this energy available for free in the universe, and once we learn to tap into that we can share it with others rather than drawing it from one another, and one we make that "jump" we realize how much more satisfying and fulfilling that energy is when gathered appropriately.
