I don't like basement stairs either, I live in a basement so I don't have much of a choice I don't understand how stairs can be so thin and have open spaces between each step, yet be sturdy. It doesn't seem logical to me and being able to see down them from underneath makes it worse. I hate when concrete stairs from high places are tinted orange from rust on their sides. It gives me bad vibes about them.
