In some cases in a peer run group the leaders have been told in their training class not to turn away from 'hot potatos' subjects such as this, but not everyone can handle the situation as well as others. That's if it was brought up by a group member as a personal subject. Not sure if this is what happened. Definitely if subjects are upsetting you are within your rights to leave, I have done so, on occasion.
