I don't know where you are, so I'll just tell you about my local getaways of choice. Esalen is a spectacular retreat on the central California coast, in Big Sur, a kind of forest by the sea. They have all kinds of therapeutic "get away from it all" retreats, and the cost isn't beyond the pale. I also like Asilomar, which is near Monterey--also beautiful, more seaside forest. Do you sense a theme in my favored retreat settings? I've only done self-styled retreats at Asilomar, just booking a week's stay to meditate and write. I think they can be just as productive sometimes as a more guided retreat. Fun fact: Asilomar's central grounds are turn of the century YWCA lodge facilities built by Julia Morgan, the architect of Hearst Castle (which is fairly nearby). So if anyone's thinking about visiting, definitely ask for a room in one of the heritage buildings! They're still very rustic (no phone, TV, etc.), and last time I went I got no cell reception there, so you really can cut that cord!
