I had them too, also heard loud explosions....search 'exploding head syndrome'. Some cases also mention the electric zaps. Its loud, tingly and yes it used to throw me off balance. I had 5 zaps in a row one time and it nearly took me off my feet. Luckily don't have them anymore.
