I hope you're feeling better now that you're out of the hospital and they've changed your meds.
I have to say that amitriptyline is supposedly one of the most activating AD's out there (my pain doctor wanted to put me on it at one point for nerve pain, but my pdoc said no way, it's the worst thing I could take). I'm assuming that they've judged that your depression is what most needs to be treated at this time and that there isn't danger of going into mania.
I hope your new pdoc works out well. Sounds like a fresh start! Best of luck.
