I haven't posted in this forum before as I try to avoid topics of religion-- but your question caught my eye.

My family was Catholic and I had a little upbringing in it-- I was taught that wearing a cross is fine but NOT the crucifixion, those are for putting on the wall and on rosaries. If a crucifixion is worn the person doesn't face it and that is disrepectful--it's kind of like hanging it on the wall with it facing the wall.-- at least this is what I was taught...........
